# How do I assign functions to club members?

> Create functions (president, treasurer, coach…), assign them to members and use them to restrict events to some members only.

Functions describe a member's role in the club: committee, president, secretary, treasurer, coach… To create one, open **Manage the club** > **Member-related functions**, tap **Add**, enter the **Function**, choose the members concerned and tap **Save**.

## Create a function

1. From the club's home page, tap **Manage the club**.
2. In the **Members** section, open **Member-related functions**.
3. Tap **Add** in the action bar.
4. Enter the name under **Function** (for example "Canicross coach").
5. Tap **Members with this function** and select one or more people.
6. Tap **Save**.

The list of **Functions** shows each function with the members who hold it. Tap a function to rename it or change its members.

## What are functions for?

- **Club directory**: functions are shown under the member's name in the **Members** section and on their profile, which helps newcomers know who to contact.
- **Restricted events**: an event can be limited to members with certain functions, for example a committee meeting or a coach training session (see [How do I manage event registrations?](/en/docs/events/registrations/)). Only those members, the managers and the event managers then see the event and receive the invitation.

## Functions or rights?

A function grants no rights in the app: a "treasurer" cannot open the bookkeeping until they are made an **Accounting Manager** in **User rights**. See [How do I assign roles and rights in my club?](/en/docs/getting-started/roles-and-rights/).

The club's managers and membership managers.
