# How do I use the club's discussions?

> Start a discussion with the whole club or a few members, send messages, photos and files, quote, like and write privately to a member.

**Discussions** are the club's messaging. To start one, open the **Discussions** tab, tap **New discussion**, choose whether it is visible to all members or to a few, give it a title, write your message and tap **Publish**.

## The discussion list

The **Discussions** tab shows the discussions you take part in within your current club:

- pinned discussions are at the top, then the others by date of the latest message;
- a badge shows the number of new messages;
- each discussion shows **All members** or the number of **members** taking part;
- discussions with no message for more than 7 days are grouped under **Old discussions**.

## Start a new discussion

1. In the **Discussions** tab, tap **New discussion**.
2. Under **Settings**:
   - leave **Visible to all members** switched on for a discussion open to the whole club;
   - or switch it off and choose the participants in **Chat Members**;
   - switch on **Pin the discussion** to keep it at the top of the list.
3. Enter the **Title of the discussion**.
4. Write your message under **Content**. If needed, add files or photos with **Add attachment** (4 images at most).
5. Tap **Publish**.

Participants receive a notification, depending on their settings.

## Write privately to a member

In the **Members** section, tap a member to open their **Profile**, then the discussion icon at the top. If you already have a one-to-one discussion with them, it opens; otherwise a new private discussion is created. One-to-one discussions show the other person's name and avatar in the list.

## Send messages

In a discussion:

- type in the **Message ...** field and tap the send button; if the field is empty, the button sends a thumbs-up;
- the paper clip lets you **Select a file**, **Select a photo from your gallery**, **Take a new photo** or **Add a pool** (see [How do I create a poll in a discussion?](/en/docs/communication/polls/));
- the heart under a message lets you like it; on your own messages, it shows the list of people who liked it;
- a message's "…" menu offers **Quote** and, for your own messages, **Delete**;
- the **new messages** divider shows where to pick up reading, and the app shows when someone is typing.

Tap a photo to view it full screen and swipe through the message's other images.

## An event's discussion

On an event page, the **Discuss** button opens the discussion dedicated to that event, created on the first tap and open to all club members. Members who refused the invitation are added without notifications. A banner at the top of the discussion recalls the event, with a link to its page.

## Set a discussion's notifications

Tap the discussion's title (or the settings icon) to choose whether to receive a notification **On the phone** and **By email** for every new message, then tap **Save**. The **Notifications** button in the list sets the alerts for newly created discussions (see [How do I manage my notifications?](/en/docs/communication/notifications/)).

## Edit or delete a discussion

The discussion's creator and the chat managers can change its title, pinning, visibility and participants, or delete it. See [How do I moderate the club's discussions?](/en/docs/communication/moderate-discussions/).
